Writer’s Strike Highlights Media Transition to Web

If it isn’t yet clear to you the critical role the Internet now plays in our daily lives, and the greater role it is sure to play in the future, than just turn on the television. Have you noticed there isn’t much on worth watching…. no one is writing anything. There’s a  strike going on in Hollywood over payment for writer’s content that is downloaded from the Internet. Writers think their traditional sources of revenue are going to evaporate over time as more shows are downloaded; and the corporations that provide the downloads don’t want to pay the writers because (they claim) that it isn’t clear how much revenue will come in for those shows downloaded from the web. The particulars don’t really matter. The point is: The argument shouldn’t be whether downloading is going to happen, or how big it will be. It already is here and it is big. The strike is just one more blazing neon sign: Traditional media is moving onto the Internet…fast. Our advice: Continue to invest in your website and stay on top of new media opportunities as they present themselves.
