President-elect Obama plans to use social media to appeal directly to the public on policy. This will be the first president to do so. The plan, reported by the Associated Press and publishered here in the Richmond Times-Dispatch, is to use the 10 million plus emails he has collected, weekly YouTube videos, and other unnamed ideas to push for political change. The new president will also seek to hear from his constituents on ideas and policy. This is likely to be the largest use of social media for social change ever attempted. It will be fascinating to watch.
